It’s not just the Christmas number one in the charts that gets us excited here at Out of the Ark, we also love to keep up with the Sparkyard Christmas charts! Below are the top ten Out of the Ark songs you sang last year (with some carols thrown in as well!). We hope you’ll be inspired to find something new!
1. Christmas Conga
Christmas Conga is a fantastically fun song that features different characters in each verse, perfect for getting children lining up and moving around the school!
Choose a child to lead the actions for each verse. Can the rest of the class copy them? Swap leaders at the end of each verse. Our guide ‘Classroom Routines And Signals At Christmas’ includes lots more ideas you might like to try – you can find a link to the guide on the Christmas Conga song page.
2. Midnight
Time to don the black jackets, hats and cool shades and perform some serious finger-clicking choreography. Perfect as a stand-alone song, or as part of a nativity narrative, this ever-popular song has all the energy, cheek and style to kick-start an unforgettable Christmas!
If you are putting together a church service or Christmas concert, look no further than the Songs For EVERY Christmas - Anniversary Edition songbook, from which this song comes! You will find helpful suggestions for an order of service and concert programme ideas, including two short drama sketches and a nativity poem/tableau, under Downloads & About, as well as under Resources on the songbook page.
3. The Reindeer Dance
Join in with the actions in the chorus of this exciting song all about Father Christmas arriving on his sleigh. Great for getting rid of excess Christmas energy! This one is super popular with early years.
This song is included in our ‘Christmas Singing In The Curriculum’ guide too, which you can find via The Reindeer Dance song page.
4. Christmas
A beautiful ballad focusing on the anticipation of Christmas Day in the first verse, ‘Everyone is waiting with a twinkle in their eye’, and on Christmas Day itself in the second verse – ‘We celebrate the birthday of a special baby boy.’
5. All Around The World
A wonderfully celebratory song about people singing all around the world on Christmas Day – ‘Sun or snow the bells are ringing’!
6. That First Christmas Day
A beautiful, tranquil ballad that perfectly captures the sense of peace and simplicity on that first Christmas day. Great for solo opportunities.
7. Child In A Manger Born
Out of the Ark does Away In A Manger. This song has produced some profound moments over the years. Soulful, contemplative and perfect for solos and group singing. Now with harmonies for an extra touch of magic. Look out for the signing videos on the song page, too.
8. Christmas Calypso
Biblical narrative meets Caribbean lilt! A catchy earworm for your Christmas enjoyment, with no shortage of rhymes to aid lyric learning.
9. Because It’s Christmas
A modern song on the traditional Christmas theme, offering hope as it leads us back to the stable in Bethlehem. With its strong, upbeat feel, this is bound to get everyone on their feet!
10. Ho, Ho, Ho
From packing his sandwich to putting on his red suit, Santa’s making his Christmas Eve preparations. This fun song for the younger age group will certainly get them excited about his imminent arrival!
Don’t forget, as well as Out of the Ark original songs we also have lots of traditional carols in Sparkyard, which are really popular, too! The top three sung by our subscribers last year were:
It Was On A Starry Night
